BebiCol® is a probiotic that, if taken in an adequate dose, has a beneficial effect on health.
BebiCol® probiotic drops contain one of the most thoroughly studied probiotic strains in the world, whose effectiveness and safety have been tested in more than 1000 scientific papers, over 250 clinical trials and doctoral theses documented in prominent hospitals and universities all over the world. Therefore, The European Society for Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition and The World Health Organization recommend it.
The probiotic strain in BebiCol® drops was first isolated by scientists from Boston, Professor Sherwood L. Gorbach and Barry Goldin. They were looking for a strain that could inhabit intestines and have positive effects on a host’s health. As the guidelines for the research, the scientists established a set of criteria that their ideal probiotic candidate had to fulfil. The probiotic had to be:
- of human origin – to be a natural resident to human gastrointestinal tract
- capable of adhering to the walls of intestines
- capable of inhabiting intestines to prevent spreading of bad (pathogenic) bacteria
- capable of overcoming the obstacles along the path from stomach to intestines – to be resistant to stomach and bile acid
- beneficial for health
- completely safe
In 1985, Gorbach and Goldin finally managed to isolate this probiotic strain, naming it after them, that is, taking the initial letters of their surnames, Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG. Today this is globally the most thoroughly studied probiotic strain and the most comprehensively documented probiotic. By 2018, over 1,000 research papers and more than 250 clinical studies had been published on the probiotic strain in BebiCol®, making the probiotic a gold standard in clinical practice.
